Dedicated to fighting the devastation of drugs
Welcome to the Luke and Marcus Trust from Susan Garner, Marilyn Shaw and Lesley Jakeman.
We’re the three heartbroken mums behind this small charity, set up in the wake of our beloved sons’ deaths from heroin overdoses.
Determined to help others cope with the sense of shame, guilt and dreadful loss we were left with, two of us (Luke and Marcus’ mums, Susan and Marilyn) launched the trust in May 2005.
Lesley was our first ‘client’ who turned to us after losing her son Matthew. Like Luke and Marcus, his drug addiction began by dabbling with cannabis. She’s since joined us in our work.
Between us, we offer unashamed sympathy, support and understanding whilst raising awareness and campaigning nationally on drugs related issues.
So please trust us when we say there’s no such thing as ‘only’ cannabis …
Luke and Marcus Trust short film
This short film briefly tells of our stories as mum’s to three beautiful young men, who sadly lost their lives to drug addiction:
We have made this short film in the hope that it will provide young people and their families, as well as professionals, with some knowledge of how taking drugs could affect themselves and the people who care for them. At the same time, alerting young people to the fact that their choice to use drugs could lead to serious consequences.
The Luke and Marcus Trust visit schools to talk to children usually aged between 12 and 13 years old. We speak about the affects drug abuse can have on a young person’s life, mental health and well-being, as well as the impact this can then have on their families.
We would like to thank Joe, a local university student, for his help in creating this film.
