On 18th May Lesley and Susan from The Luke and Marcus Trust attended Kettlethorpe High School, in Wakefield. The reason for our visit was to talk to year 9 pupils about the dangers of young people using cannabis, the impact this can have on their mental health and also how it affects members of their family, especially the distress and upset it can cause their parents.
We told of our own experiences and our childrens’ struggles with addiction, both of our sons sadly progressed from cannabis to heroin and died from a drugs overdose.
The talk was well received and we hope that the children will take on board the dangers of using drugs, of any kind.
One parent emailed following our visit and wanted to express their thanks to the two mums who came into school assembly, she said her daughter was very moved by the talk and she spoke about it most of the night. Mum feels it has really taught her daughter some life awareness that with “one wrong decision and wrong friendship group, your life can change”. We always tell the children that sadly our children made a wrong choice and it then proved difficult for them to go back, the end result for them was fatal.
We, at The Luke and Marcus Trust, are happy to go and speak to young people in the hopes that some, if not all, will listen and take on board our warnings.
