Robert and Haley Smith (Uncle and Niece) decided to run the 3 Peaks Challenge in memory of Robert’s son, Nathan and Haley’s brother Ross. They were cousins and they wanted something in their memory. This took place on the 31st August 2018, when after months of training and preparation, along with friends and supporters, they achieved their goal. On the Sunday 1st September they held a Fun Day at Thornhill Rugby Club to thank their supporters.
Luke and Marcus contributed to the event with raffle prizes and sandwiches and cake. They were the fortunate recipients of the money raised, a magnificent sum of £1,600 for which the Trust is truly grateful and thank them wholeheartedly. Margaret Short represented The Luke and Marcus committee, as unfortunately Marilyn had unexpected guests from abroad and was sadly unable to attend.
Margaret, as always, came to the rescue and spent several hours at the Fun Day buying raffle tickets and entering the spirit of the event. Thank you Margaret.
Nathan and Ross can be very proud of their family in this achievement and we will remember them in our Memorial Service at Christmas.
The money raised will go towards the purchase of books and literature which The Luke and Marcus Trust can take to schools in Yorkshire when giving talks to young people to warn against the dangers of taking drugs, specifically cannabis use and the mental health problems this can cause. Also the Trust tries to explain the impact their actions can have on their family members.
Once again The Luke and Marcus Trust would like to express their appreciation to Robert and Haley for the money they raised and their support.
